Although it might seem that reconnecting with old acquaintances, such as school friends, might be easier than getting to know complete strangers, in fact, it is not at all. In a study with almost 2,500 participants, researchers from the University of Sussex and Simon Fraser University in Canada found that people associate attempts to restore relationships with awkward situations and rejections, so the majority do not want to take such a step. In seven rounds of research, specialists found out that 70 percent have a reticent or negative attitude to the idea of resuming contact with old friends, although 90 percent of all respondents have lost contact with a close person.
Of all the respondents, only one third confirmed that they would have the courage to write a letter to an old acquaintance, even if all the circumstances were favorable – they had the necessary contact information, the desire to communicate themselves and the belief that the other person would also like to renew the friendship, the magazine said.
