The main task of the training is to implement cooperation with allies within the framework of NATO command.

Spring Storm 2024 is part of the second phase of the larger Steadfast Defender 24 exercise, and will focus on leveraging the deployment of NATO’s allied forces across the board, highlighting alliance unity.

The battle group’s participation in these exercises is a proof of readiness that strengthens NATO’s commitment to protect Latvia’s security, stability and territorial integrity, the National Armed Forces said.

More than 14,000 participants from 13 NATO member states with 300 different types of armored vehicles will take part in the exercise.

During the military exercises, the movement of military motor transport columns will take place on the A1 highway in the Ādaži – Ainaži – Ādaži road section, which may temporarily impede the flow of traffic. The National Armed Forces calls for understanding the ongoing activities aimed at strengthening the country’s national defense and NATO’s collective security.

CONTEXT:

The battle group of NATO’s extended presence in Latvia strengthens the defense of Latvia and currently consists of more than 1,900 soldiers from Albania, the Czech Republic, Italy, Iceland, Canada, Montenegro, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and North Macedonia.
