A chaotic situation erupted at the University of Texas at Austin on Wednesday, where hundreds of police officers, including officers on horseback and wielding batons, broke into a crowd of protesters and detained 34 people. Several people were injured.

One of the students told the AP news agency that the police presence and treatment was an “overreaction”, adding that the protests “would have remained peaceful” if the police had not used force.

He predicted that the arrests would only encourage students to new protests.

Police spent several hours trying to control a crowd of protesters at the University of Texas at Austin on Wednesday, but when law enforcement officers left, about 300 demonstrators returned.

The management of the university has promised to guarantee compliance with school rules and not to allow occupation of the university.

Students at California State Polytechnic University in Humboldt have been barricaded in a building for several days, and the school closed its campus over the weekend and switched to remote classes.

Harvard University tried to preempt the protests this week by restricting access to the school grounds and requiring permission to set up tents and tables. But that didn’t stop protesters from pitching 14 tents on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, several Jewish students have claimed that they see anti-Semitism in the actions of the protesters, which is why they are afraid to visit university campuses.

Police arrested 133 protesters at New York University this week, and more than 40 protesters were detained at Yale University on Monday. Demonstrations and arrests of protesters have also taken place at other US universities.

Israel launched a war against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip after the terrorists carried out a massacre in Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages.

In the ensuing war, Israel has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip over the past seven months, according to the local health ministry, which does not distinguish between fighters and civilians, but says at least two-thirds of the dead are children and women.
