The fate of the hosts Italy and Hungary was decided in the last match of the First Division Group A tournament. In the penultimate game, Italy scored four goals in the first and third periods, 8-1 tearing South Korea, which will be replaced at this level by Ukraine, who won the Group B competition in Vilnius. Along with Italy’s success, Romania’s chances of winning second place also disappeared.
Luca Frigo put the Italian team in the lead today already in the 21st second. Daniel Mantenuto (2+1), Daniel Frank (1+2) and Thomas Larkin (0+3) scored three points each, while Frigo, Michel Marchetti, Diego Costner and Daniel Catenacci each scored a goal and assisted.
South Korea have not participated in Group B of the first division since 2015, when they managed to win the tournament held in Eindhoven. Three years later, the Koreans made their debut in the elite division.
In the last game, the Hungarians thanked the many fans by defeating the Slovenians (2:1). Any kind of victory was valid for Hungary in this fight. The decisive puck was thrown into the goal of Gasper Krošel three minutes before the end of the regular time by Kristof Papp, the forward of the Northern Michigan University team.
There was a real atmosphere of elimination battles on the field, hockey players (especially Hungarians) did not shy away from using various small abominations.
Hungarian Bence Báližs saved 35 out of 36 shots.
