Former Finnish ice hockey player Ville Peltonen knows quite well how challenging it is to play after great success. He won the world champion title with the Finnish national team, became a gold medal winner in Finnish and Swiss clubs, and also played in the world’s strongest league – the NHL. Now he shares his experience with the hockey players of the Latvian national team, who won several historic victories a year ago. He says to stay humble and keep working hard without thinking about what you have done before.
Titulētais Peltonens šobrīd strādā par galvenā trenera Harija Vītolina asistentu un palīdz Latvijas izlasei gatavoties 2024. gada pasaules čempionātam. Tas valstsvienībai būs pirmais turnīrs pēc izcīnītajām bronzas medaļām pērn. Visu aizvadīto gadu hokejisti bija vietējo līdzjutēju varoņi, bet tagad iepriekšējie panākumi jānoliek malā.

“Līdzīgi man bija ar Somijas izlasi. 1995. gadā mēs izcīnījām savas pirmās zelta medaļas pasaules čempionātā, un daudzi domāja, ka drīz izdosies triumfēt vēlreiz, bet vajadzēja vairāk nekā desmit gadus, lai šo panākumu atkārtotu. Pretinieki ir jāciena. Pasaules čempionāta līmenis ir pietiekami augsts un katru gadu panākumi jānopelna. Mums tas ir jāatceras,” sarunā ar portālu “Delfi” stāstīja Peltonens.
