Basketball club “Ventspils” will start participating in the semi-finals of the Latvian Basketball League

Friday, April 26, at At 19:00, in the Ventspils basketball hall of the Olympic Center, the “Ventspils” basketball club will play the first game of the Latvian Basketball League semi-final series against the “Rīgas Zeļļi” team. Teams compete in a series of up to three wins.

Both teams have met twice this season. In the main tournament, the teams each won one – on October 29 in Riga, Zelli were superior with 89:86, and on February 2, in Ventspils, the hosts were superior with 100:92.

Ventspilnieki started the season poorly (3-4 in the first month), but continued to improve their performance and balance, reaching the semi-finals of the combined league for the first time since 2019. There, they showed a worthy resistance to the best team of the main tournament, Tallinn “Kalev/Cramo” (1:2), but “VEF Rīga” lost in the fight for 3rd place.

“Rīgas Zeļļi” had a better first part of the season, amassing a 15-5 record by the end of January. After that, things got worse – in the main tournament of the Pafbet LAT-EST league, the balance was 3-7, in the quarter-final with “VEF Rīga” 0-2, but in the quarter-final of the Latvian championship “VALMIERA GLASS VIA” managed to beat with 3:1.

BK “Ventspils” has been continuously playing in the semi-finals of the Latvian championship since the spring of 1996, winning 22 victories in 27 series.

The second semi-final match between BK “Ventspils” and “Rīgas Zeļļi” will take place on April 29 at 19:30 in Riga, but the third on May 2 at 19:00 in Ventspils.

“VEF Rīga” and BK “Liepāja” will play each other in the second semi-final pair. The team will play the first semi-final game on Thursday, April 25, at 19:00 at the Rimi Olympic Center.
