The captains of two teams have agreed to participate in the World Championship – Detroit “Red Wings” center forward Dylan Larkin, who scored 69 points in 68 games this season, and Ottawa “Senators” forward Brady Tkaczak, who has 81 games and 74 points.
If Tkačak represented the country last time at the junior level, then Larkin already has the experience of world championships – he won the bronze award in 2015 and 2018. In total, Larkin played in five tournaments, scoring 34 points in 45 games.
On the defensive line is Columbus Blue Jackets star Zach Werenski, who scored 57 points in 70 games. He will have the opportunity to join forces with former partner Seth Jones in the national team shirt. Johnny Goudreau, who was the Blue Jackets’ top scorer with 60 points, will also be from Columbus.
A year ago, the Americans lost to Latvia in the bronze medal game. This year, both teams will be in the same subgroup and will compete on May 21, which will be the final match of the group for both.
US hockey players have played in the semi-finals in four of the previous five tournaments, but have not reached the finals – two bronze and two fourth places.
