At the World Curling Championship for mixed pairs and senior teams taking place at the Ostersund Arena in Sweden, the Latvian women’s national team today won the third victory in the subgroup tournament games and secured a place in the quarterfinals, which is a historic success in the senior curling competition for senior women.

On the first day of the World Championship, on April 20, our athletes recognized the superiority of the Irish national team with a slight lead (5:6). Then followed the victories over the Swiss and Hong Kong seniors – the results of the respective games were 6:4 and 7:3.

Yesterday, the Swedish national team had to give up in a tough fight (4:7), but today, thanks to the victory over Estonia (8:2), Latvia’s strongest curling players in the senior group managed to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the world championship, which is historically the highest place won by the Latvian national team so far .

The quarter finals in Ostersund Arena will start on April 25, at 19:00. The Latvian women’s national team at the world championship for seniors in Sweden is represented by: Elēna Kāpostiņa, Dace Zīle, Gunta Millere and Aija Rudzīte.

Meanwhile, in the men’s competition, Latvian seniors ranked fourth in their subgroup with two wins in five games.
