On Saturday, May 4, the Latvian hockey legends game took place at Arena Rīga, where Aleksandra Nižvija’s “Red” team played Rodrigo Laviņš’s “White” team.
The 40-minute long match ended with a draw – 7:7 (3:3, 4:4). On the other hand, Aleksandrs Nizhivi was excellent in the post-game shots, who made two “bullishes” and brought the “Red” team a victory with 11:10.
The following goals were scored for the red team: Aleksejs Širokovs (2), Herberts Vasilijevs, Normunds Sējės, Māris Jass, Aleksandrs Niživijs and Mārtiņš Karsums.
Goals for the white team were scored by: Guntis Galviņš (2), Lauris Dārziņš, Artis Ābols, Rodrigo Laviņš, Armands Bērziņš and Vitalijs Pavlovs.
4,832 spectators had come to the Hockey Legends game today. A big thank you to all the fans who came and supported our legends.
Rodrigo Laviņš (white team) and Aleksandrs Niživijs (red team) were chosen as hockey legend team captains. Both of these hockey players have played the most games in the Latvian national team, Laviņš – 226, and Niživij – 222. The participants in the hockey legends match were selected based on the number of games played in the Latvian national team. Coaches are also chosen for the teams. Unfortunately, several players who were approached could not participate in this game due to busyness and health.
At the beginning of April, the captains of both teams – Laviņš and Nizivijs took part in a special draft ceremony, where they chose their team’s players. In a festive and fun atmosphere, the draft ceremony took place in the locker room of the Latvian hockey team.
