Harijs Vītoliņš is preparing for the third world championship as the head coach of the Latvian hockey team. In 2022, the team took 10th place, but last year for the first time in history they won medals – bronze awards. Although the structure of the preparatory work is the same as last year, which made it possible to achieve great success, this spring the situation is completely different from last year, the coach stated in an interview with TVNET.
Āriks Visockis, the physical trainer of the Latvian ice hockey team, spoke to TVNET last year at Riga airport immediately after returning from the Finnish city of Tampere, where the bronze medal was won, which explained the team’s success in the world championship – changes were needed, but there was no squeaking.
“It all started with one day when, after the previous world championship, we sat down with coach Vitolinas and realized that something had to be changed. We created a fundamental physical preparation plan with different tools. We stuck to the plan even when there was a physical hole and there were doubts about whether we would go in the right direction. There was no squealing. Everyone worked hard. I believe that planning was the key to success,” said Visockis.
Now that less than a year has passed since the historic success, Vītoliņš stated in an interview with TVNET that the structure of the preparatory work is the same as last year, but this spring the situation is different than last year.
