Latvian representative Don’s performance on the big stage of Eurovision is expected in the second semi-final on May 9, he will perform the song “Hollow”. LTV1 and REplay.lv will watch the live broadcast of the semi-finals at 22.00 Representatives of Latvia, as well as Malta, Albania, Greece, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Denmark, Armenia, San Marino, Georgia, Belgium, Estonia, Israel, Norway and the Netherlands will participate in the second semi-final.

Together with musician Don, two backing vocalists are going to Eurovision: Latvian musician and songwriter Chris Noah and co-producer of the song “Hollow”, Irish musician Liam Geddes.

We already reported that Don (real name Arturs Šingirejs) triumphed convincingly in the Latvian national song selection “Supernova” with the song “Hollow”, which was originally composed and released in Latvian under the name “Lauzto šepu karaļvalsts”. The Latvian version of the song won first place in the “Music Award 2023” competition in January of this year, but for its English version to bring new success, it will have to become the first song since 2016 and the third song since 2009 from Latvia reaches the Eurovision final.

The structure of the song contest has not changed, and as usual, two semi-finals will be held initially, this year on May 7 and 9, after which the winners will be announced on the evening of the contest final on May 11. You will be able to follow Latvia’s success starting on May 9, when the representative of Latvia, Dons, will perform on stage in the second semi-final with the symbolic number “9”.

Only 10 countries from each semi-final will make it to the final of the Eurovision Song Contest, making a total of 20 finalists. Unfortunately, compared to the first semi-final, where 15 countries will participate, Latvia will have a more difficult task this year, because in the second semi-final it will compete against 16 countries – the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Belgium, Israel, Estonia, Armenia, Norway, Georgia, Denmark, Albania, Malta, Czech Republic, Austria and San Marino. In addition, Don’s “Hollow” song will also have to perform together with three “big five” countries – France, Italy and Spain.

We can expect support in the semi-finals from our northern neighbors in Estonia, but great competition will be provided on May 9 by countries such as the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Belgium and Israel, which are predicted not only to enter the final, but also have good chances to fight for victory in general, and the representative of Switzerland Nemo with the song “The Code” is mentioned as the main favorite at the moment.

“At the moment, the forecasts for Latvia’s entry into the finals are not positive, because it is very likely that Armenia and Norway will join the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Belgium and Israel. On the other hand, there will be fierce competition for the remaining places in the final, as Don will compete with Estonia, Georgia, Denmark, Albania and San Marino, among which the favorites are the songs of Estonia and Georgia,” says the representative of Betsafe.

Don’s chance to advance to the Eurovision final has been assessed by “Betsafe” bookmakers with a 29% probability – but this is only the 12th best indicator among all the participants of the second semi-final. If we look at all the Eurovision participants, Latvia’s chances of winning are estimated at 0.5% probability. We cannot be happy about the scene between the Baltic countries, where the main favorite is Lithuanian representative Silvestrs Belts (63.4%), followed by the union of Estonian groups “5miinust” and “Puuluup” (16.1%) and only then Don ( 12.4%).
