On Saturday, April 27, in all of Latvia and also in Ventspils, the Great Talk was held for the 17th year in a row with the motto “clean-green-long”. Also in Ventspils, large areas were cleaned within the framework of the Great District, so that future generations could also live in a clean and green Latvia.

This year, the biggest initiative to clean up came directly from children and young people, who have shown a desire to contribute to the improvement of the surrounding environment and the cleaning of territories. In Ventspils, the first cleaners began to work diligently already on Friday, April 26. The communal administration would like to thank Ventspils State 1st Gymnasium, Pärventa Elementary School and Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, which cleaned up Ventspils parks, undergrowth and the seaside area as part of the Great District. Ventspils State 1st Gymnasium made the territory of the Ventspils beach area cleaner, freeing the area from the 10th footbridge of the beach to the 6th footbridge (from the dune area to the bicycle path). Parventa elementary school cleaned up the forest area in Parventa, through which you can get to the sea, as well as the beach area itself. Ventspils University students cleaned up the forest area from the fence of the university to Riņķa Street.

On the day of the Great Cleanup, the Ventspils young guards started cleanup. The clean-up lasted two days for them, because the hard-working children and young people combined the clean-up with the final event of the training cycle of young guards, spending the night in the forest under the open sky and testing the skills learned during the year (orientation, searching for things, etc.) in real conditions. The young guards cleaned a wide area from the fence of the Ventspils seaside camping to the Aizsaules street stop and to the 7th footbridge of the beach.

The work done by everyone is important and necessary so that everyone can live in a beautiful and tidy environment.

A big cleanup is not just cleaning up the area by picking up trash. People are involved in planting trees and flowers, beautifying yards, making bird cages and benches within the framework of the Great Talka. In the city of Ventspils, trees were planted in the alley near the Ventspils State 1st Gymnasium, on Katoļu Street and in the Bridge Garden during the week of the Great District. In total, almost 6,000 spring flower seedlings were planted in the city beds and flower pots this spring. Widows, primroses, forget-me-nots and clockwork flowers are already blooming in the city beds. There are 86 colorful flowerpots in the city, where widows, primroses, forget-me-nots, Asian gundegas, tulips, daffodils and hyacinths bloom this spring and are dizzying with their aroma. Spring flower pyramids with small and large-flowered widows and forget-me-nots are located in Ventspils.

Thanks to the spring warmth, we will soon experience a real explosion of colors in Ventspils, the bright flowering time of bulbous flowers will begin. This spring, 80,030 tulips, 19,410 daffodils, 1,658 hyacinths, 1,360 muscares, 480 fritillaries, planted last fall, will bloom in the beds, and in May and June, the magnificent flowers from the sown bulbous mixtures will bloom in the urban area on an area of 180 m2.
