Mission “Mars 2050”

The children’s room invites you to learn the various skills that a future astronaut needs in order to be able to go on a mission to Mars in 2050. With the help of the Space Knowledge Center, we will publish a task every day that will help children become active, independent, critical thinkers – real astronauts.

We will post one challenge every day that will help you develop one of the skills an astronaut needs, you just have to practice hard!

Research and exploratory thinking is a very important skill for the future. We usually associate research with scientists, but investigative thinking can be developed already in preschool. Studying and observing different processes trains skills that will be especially important for astronauts!

Find the part!

Astronauts will spend six to nine months on their way to Mars, during which time anything can happen in the spacecraft. It is impossible to prepare for everything. That’s why it’s important to practice problem solving. For example – you find a nut! So something is no longer attached well and can open or fall off. It might not be a big problem at home, but in a spaceship? If the ventilation or cooling system stopped working, the astronauts would have nothing to breathe and the spacecraft would overheat. Today’s task will make you pay attention to subtle things and figure out what is in the picture.

The aim: Develop the child’s memory and ability to imagine.

Participants: Two or more (at least one parent).

Required materials: Magnifying glass, mobile phone as a camera, can additionally use a photo print.

Preparation: Without the child noticing, a close-up photo of 4-8 objects is taken with the mobile phone. Images can be printed, and can also be displayed on a computer or TV screen.

Gameplay:

  • Tells a story about astronauts and recognizing small things to a child or group of children.
  • Shows a close-up of things and tells you to find them.
  • Asking questions about the characteristics of the visible object – what color is the object to be searched for, is it hard or soft, etc.

* If a magnifying glass or magnifying glass is available at home or in the garden, then we can take photos through the magnifying glass. Display the captured image on your phone or TV/computer screen if available. The magnifying glass is given to the child and asked to look for the visible image. What is seen is compared and discussed, whether the color matches, what are the differences and similarities. If a magnifying glass is not available, you can take a close-up photo of the object – usually a mobile phone allows you to take a photo from a distance of about 5 cm, in addition, you can use the digital zoom to zoom in even further. It is important that the object is well lit, then the image will turn out better.
