Mercedes-Benz talks about the G-580 EQ, an electric off-roader, which will cost around 200,000 euros in the introductory Edition One version.

From the version with internal combustion engines, the G-580 EQ differs with a slightly raised hood, a grille that gets an illuminated LED frame at a premium, and rear wheel arches that incorporate Air Curtains – slits for air that improve aerodynamics. Tinted side and rear windows, Matrix-LED (Multibeam) lights, roof spoiler are standard. On the rear door there can be a rectangular “spare wheel” box (extra), where in this case charging cables, snow chains or some other accessories are stored.

In the cabin, a 12.3-inch instrument display and an equally large touch screen for multimedia, the round ventilation nozzles characteristic of the G-class and the indispensable grab handle in front of the passenger. Optionally, two additional 11.6-inch touchscreens are available in the rear, where you can watch movies or surf the web, and a video camera is also available so that riders can document beautiful routes or their emotions.

“On board” also other proven values, such as augmented reality for easier control of the surrounding situation or the “transparent hood” that provides a virtual view under the front of the vehicle.

The drive is provided by four permanent magnet synchronous motors (PSM) with a total power of 432 kW (587 hp) and a torque of 1164 Nm. 100 km/h electric Geländewagen reaches in 4.7 seconds – 0.4 seconds slower than the AMG model with internal combustion engines. Not bad if we know that the G-580 EQ is half a ton heavier, with a curb weight of more than 3 tons.

Each motor is controlled separately and using virtual blocks, you can ensure maximum grip with the road surface or even perform a G-Turn on the spot. The arsenal also includes the off-road G-Steering function, which reduces the turning radius, and the G-Roar function, which simulates the sound of a V8 engine.

Off-road, the G 580 EQ can overcome slopes of 45 degrees and maintains stability on side slopes of up to 35 degrees. Approach angle is 32 degrees, departure angle is 30.7, ground clearance is 248 millimeters. Streams and small rivers will not be an obstacle either, as long as their depth does not exceed 850 mm.

The 116 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion traction battery is integrated into the frame and protected by a robust housing and additional composite underbody protection. The battery provides up to 432 kilometers of mileage in the WLTP cycle and supports charging with a power of up to 200 kW.

The manufacturer has stated that from 10 to 80 percent, energy reserves can be replenished in 32 minutes, and it is also recovered through recuperation (up to 217 kW), regulating this process in several stages.

The Edition One model will cost around 200,000 euros, the basic version, which is promised later, will be several tens of thousands of euros cheaper.
