In his fastest lap, Verstappen finished in one minute and 27.641 seconds, 0.108 seconds ahead of Charles Leclair (Ferrari), who will be next to him on the front row. Teammate Sergio Perez was 0.235 seconds slower, but Daniel Ricciardo (RB) took fourth place to surprise.
Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari) and Oscar Piastri (McLaren) will be on the third starting row. Both “Mercedes” drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton did not qualify for the third round and remained immediately behind the top ten.
Before that, the only practice run of this stage took place, in which Verstappen was the fastest, the Dutchman completed the lap in one minute and 28.595 seconds. Piastre was 0.105 seconds behind, with Sainz in third.
On Saturday, there will be sprints and qualifying for the main race, while the Miami Grand Prix will take place on Sunday.
Verstappen is the overall leader with 110 points. He is followed by Perez with 85 points, while Leclair with 76 points and Sainz with 69 points are in the third and fourth positions, respectively.
This season, 24 rounds will be held in the F-1 championship.
