At the Latvian Armed Forces (NBS) parade on May 4 in Rēzekne, Talsi region received a special gift – the news that next year this solemn event will take place in Talsi.
The 35th anniversary of the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Latvia will be celebrated on May 4 with the National Armed Forces Day and a festive parade in Talso. Dainis Karols, Deputy Chairman of Talsa County Municipal Council, says about the upcoming event: “To celebrate the renewed independence of Latvia together – this is a great honor for our city of nine hills and two lakes, as well as for our people. Restoring Latvia’s independence was not a self-evident event, just as its protection cannot be neglected now. Every May 4th, which we look forward to, honoring our Latvia, the strength of our flag and the sound of our anthem, is a celebration of our freedom…”
Dainis Karols also comments that it is great news and an event for our region. Every year, the NBS parade takes place in a different region of Latvia, and it has become a tradition that the next city, where the event will take place in a year, is told during the ongoing parade, which this year was in Rēzekne. “Then the flag of Latvia is also handed over, on the stem of which all the places where the May 4th parade took place are marked. The decision on a specific venue is made by the Ministry of Defense, the National Armed Forces,” adds D. Karols.
