In the tender announced by the National Electronic Media Council (NEPLP) for granting broadcasting rights for creating a radio program or increasing the broadcast coverage area in Riga at the frequency of 100.0 MHz, the winner was determined as JSC “Radio SWH” program “Radio SWH LV”, according to the post of “Radio SWH” board chairman Jānis Šipkēvics on the social media “Facebook”.
NEPLP member Ilva Milzarāja says: “One of the goals of the competition was to select a program which, along with other important criteria, will strengthen Latvia’s national cultural space. The program in Riga on the 100.0 MHz frequency will not only be a business card of the capital. For many visitors to Riga, it will create a sound image of the whole of Latvia That’s why it’s important that the program is in Latvian, it has a precise format and development vision, it has already proven itself by growing the audience.”
The broadcasting license for the program “Radio SWH LV” was issued in 2022, and currently the program is broadcast on the frequency of Ventspils 104.5 MHz and Liepaja 105.8 MHz. The start of operation in Riga on the 100.0 MHz frequency is expected within 12 months from the day when the decision on the tender results came into force. The decision was taken by NEPLP on May 9, 2024.
