On Friday, May 17, the 12th International Symposium of Ceramic Art “Ceramic Laboratory” will end with the lecture of the internationally recognized Latvian ceramist Ilona Romula and the opening of three exhibitions.

The official opening of the symposium was held on May 2 with an exhibition of the participants’ application works in the glass gallery “4METRI”. Inspirational tours of Daugavpils and Daugavpils fortress followed, during which artists captured impressions to transform them into new works of art in ceramic material. Intensive work in ceramic studios, firing kilns, demonstrations and master classes is still ongoing.

The creative work will culminate on May 17. at 14.00 In the conference hall of the Rothko Museum, the internationally recognized and award-winning Latvian ceramist Ilona Romule will lead a lecture on the lithophany technique in porcelain art. On the other hand, at 16.00 will be followed by the ceremonial opening of the final exhibition of the symposium and the tribute to the participants of the symposium.

Along with the symposium exhibition, the traveling exhibition “Hope in the eyes of a child” by the Ukrainian artist Vyacheslav Pasinok will be opened. The ceramic objects on display were made under the guidance of the artist by Ukrainian children who escaped the bombing at the Kharkiv metro station. The solo exhibition of ceramics by Polish artist Alicia Bulavka-Fankidejska “Possible Forms” in the Martinson House of the Rothko Museum will also be opened.

The symposium will open on May 18 at 23.00 in the art garden near Martinson’s house, where Polish ceramists Alicija Bulavka-Fankidejski and Dmitrijs Bulavka-Fankidejski will performatively unveil an ambitious fire sculpture.

Entry to events is free.

Today, clay combines pottery, design, sculpture and other art media. Meanwhile, the creative activities of the symposium unite the artists who work with it. Robert Buček (Czech Republic), Ilona Romule (Latvia), Otars Vepkhvadze (Georgia), Rima Leipuviene (Lithuania), Srinia Chowdhury (India), Diana took part in the 12th International Ceramic Art Symposium Boitmane (Latvia), Lilija Zeiļa (Latvia), Una Gura (Latvia), Ilona Abdulajeva (Latvia), Nellija Dzalba (Latvia), Kristīne Nicmane (Latvia), Ayhatun Ateşin (Cyprus), Kaan Canduran Turkey), Alicja Buławka-Fankidejska (Poland) and Dmitrij Buławka-Fankidejski (Poland).

The symposium exhibition at the Rothko Museum, as well as Alicia Bulavka-Fankidejska’s ceramic exhibition “Possible Forms”, can be viewed at the Martinson House until August 25. On the other hand, the exhibition “Hope through the eyes of a child” by Vyacheslav Pasinok can be viewed for two days only, from May 17 to 18.

The symposium is organized by the Contemporary Ceramics Center of Latvia in cooperation with the Rothko Museum and the LAMA DAZZ studio.
