“The time begins when the nerves are on.” The President is ready for the world hockey championship

The 2024 World Ice Hockey Championship begins today in Prague and Ostrava. Four matches will be played on the first day of the championship, but the Latvian national team will go to the field tomorrow, May 11.

Tomorrow at 17.20 Latvia will meet the Polish team.

The second match will take place the very next day, where Latvia will have to fight against the French team.

Hockey is one of the most popular sports in Latvia, so many will sympathize with our team in this championship, including the President Edgars Rinkēvičs.

This morning, the president shared his emotions about the upcoming championship on his social media accounts.

“Today begins the time when the nerves are tense, the voice is gone and the emotions are over the edge. Strength, endurance and good luck to our hockey team in the world championship!”

A total of 16 national teams compete in the World Hockey Championship, which are divided into two subgroups. There are eight national teams in each subgroup, which means that each team is guaranteed at least seven games.

Latvia is in subgroup B and will compete with the teams of USA, Germany, Sweden, France, Kazakhstan, Slovakia and Poland.

The State President Edgars Rinkēvičs calls on the citizens of Latvia to keep their fingers crossed not only for the Latvian men’s hockey team in the world championship, but also for Don in Eurovision.

In an interview with TV24’s “Dienas personība” program, the president shared the observation that Don’s entry into the final of the Eurovision song contest has created a feeling of elation in people, even though Latvian residents often do not believe in the chances of their compatriots.

“In my opinion, we have such a not very good quality that we sometimes don’t believe, we don’t give good words, we don’t give faith that everything will work out. The bookmakers were very wrong in the case of Don, last year no one expected our hockey players to get bronze. Let’s believe, let’s support ours!” called the president.

According to him, without a shadow of a doubt, the stronger the support for hockey players, for Don, and for any other person in a field that he has chosen, the more likely that success will follow.
