480 classes from all over Latvia have made it to the finals of Europe’s largest school class bonding festival “Che Che Championship”, which will take place from May 16 to 18 in Bauska – most from Sigulda State Gymnasium (14 classes), Riga State 2nd Gymnasium (12 classes ), Zenta Mauriņa Grobiņa secondary school (12 classes), Bauska State Gymnasium (11 classes) and Ogre Centra elementary school (10 classes).

If you look at the regions, the most classes entered the Final from Vidzeme (180), followed by Kurzeme (99), Riga (97 classes), Zemgale (68) and Latgale (36). The list of all participants of the Final can be found here: www.cempis.lv/jaunumi/finalisti-ir-nočretiti.

“644 classes from all over Latvia competed for the chance to enter the Final. For the jury, choosing the best among the 2,500 submissions and a total of 30 hours of video footage has been an exciting but far from easy task. The jury noted that the students had delved into topics such as cyber security, waste sorting, as well as being creative and learned cross-cutting skills that will be useful in their future professional and private lives. On the other hand, for the teachers, the tasks of the Semifinal served as methodical material to incorporate the tasks of the Championship into the content of the lessons and support the class in their execution. By organizing the “Chee Chee Championship” for 18 years, our goal and commitment is not only to offer exciting races, but also to provide useful knowledge and skills to students throughout Latvia,” says “Valdis Vancovičs, chairman of Tele2’s board.

During the semi-final, the classes had to complete four tasks. As part of the “Tele2” task, students created their class flags with the help of a digital constructor, depicting the values and goals of the class. The classes that made it to the finals will receive their flags when they arrive at the finals in person. In the task “Sort the world” in cooperation with “Latvijas Green Dot”, the students created a video in which they evaluated the options for waste sorting in the nearby neighborhood and determined the improvements to be implemented, for example, many classes went to the younger classes and educated the children in the form of presentations, using self-made board games, holding contests and sorting relays with prizes. In schools with minimal waste sorting, students had two approaches. While some wrote submissions to the director or wrote projects, others acted by introducing simple cardboard boxes that they decorated on their own.

In the task “Electrical safety clear as a picture”, in cooperation with “Sadales tīkls” classes, using artificial intelligence tools, created unique visualizations on one of the topics: electrical safety in the home, electrical safety in the environment, electrical safety and water. The students both learned and repeated the rules of electrical safety and learned the possibilities of artificial intelligence tools. Also, as part of the “SEB banka” task, students created news stories “How to protect loved ones from fraud”, the purpose of which was to inform loved ones about types of fraud on the Internet and to think about how to reach senior citizens with this message. The students tried to understand the most common types of fraud and to create interesting video clips. In order to inform relatives, the students showed and explained the created videos to seniors both at home and held special, thematic grandparent meetings on remote video platforms.

“Chee Chee Championship”, which is organized by “Tele2”, has become the longest tradition of students in Latvia. This year, the championship is supported by the municipality of Bauska region, AS SEB banka, AS Sadales tīkls, Elektrum youth education project “FIZMIX.lv”, Latvian Green Point, “Super Manki”, “M&M’s” and “Orbit” brands. The activities of the Latvian National Defense Academy and the 53rd Infantry Battalion of the National Guard, the State Police, the State Fire and Rescue Service, the association “Pardes Zieds”, etc., will complement the “Chee Chee Championship” Final.
