In anticipation of the day of restoration of Latvian Independence, both eyewitnesses and interested parties gathered at the Bauska community center “Pasta 5” to reminisce with Maksimas Krutikova and learn something new about the events of that time.

As Maksims, the organizer of the event, said, it was the last meeting for him as a resident of Bauska region. The author of the book about the events of the Revival period in Iecava, “Although in the past, but freely”, is moving to live in Riga – closer to the place of study and work. This will not prevent the completion of the planned two books – this year it is planned to publish a collection of memories about Supreme Council member Emerita Buķeli, but next year the goal is to publish the memories collected over a longer period of time about the events of the Revival period in Bauska region.

About 20 interested people came to the meeting at the Bauska community center “Pasta 5”, including a number of heroes of the future book – pastor Romans Grantovskis, one of the most active organizers of the “Baltic Road” Roman Tillers, head of the Bauska branch of the People’s Front Edmunds Jakubonis, as well as a number of other activists , who participated in various processes and shared memories.

Before the event, M. Krutikovs met with the former member of the Supreme Council of Latvia, Daini Vanagas, who also signed the declaration on Latvia’s independence. D. Vanags addressed the assembled “Pasta 5” via video: “From the bottom of my heart, I wish everyone to remember this holiday as a very serious holiday, because they have meant a lot in the history of Latvia. We finally became a free country, we have no masters, we are our own masters in our own land. It’s all finally in our hands. Do we know how to do everything – we see it today or sometimes we don’t see it, but it has never been as good in the country of Latvia after the restoration of independence as it is now. Be that as it may, we are masters in our own land.”

At the event, M. Krutikovs devoted more than an hour to a review of the events of that time in the Bauska region – about the active associations, the creation of the People’s Front, activities, the biggest scandals, the fight against environmentally degrading objects and the most active politicians.

Those who came for the first time at a public event were able to watch a film by the Bauska artist Jura Briņkis about the events of the barricade period in Riga, as well as see photographs rarely seen in public until now – both from the private archives that have been handed over for the creation of the book, as well as Ivars Bogdanova’s photos, which were once taken for the newspaper “Bauskas Dzīve” », but all were not published and can now be viewed in digital format. Jura Briņkis’s film has already been posted on the “youtube.com” channel “Latvia’s third revival in Bauska district” and the photos will also be available on the Internet in the form of a film at the request of the audience.

M. Krutikov thanked everyone for their support and kind words. He said that the work in the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage is done with a clear conscience.

The organizers received many words of gratitude, including from Latvian Popular Front activist Roman Tiller. He said that at one time they had planned to write a book about the Popular Front movement in Bauska region together with Ilgar Krauze, one of the leaders of the Bauska district branch of the Popular Front, but I. Krauze unfortunately passed away prematurely, but he himself lacked the determination. “It would be a show of respect and gratitude to all those who were not afraid and participated in the recovery of Latvia’s independence. I thank M. Krutikova for the work we did not do,” said R. Tillers. He said that he will also cooperate in the process of creating the book and will send the materials that he has at his disposal.

Young Keita Kūmiņa was also impressed. “After listening to and watching the film about the barricades of 1991, I wondered if we, young people affected by globalization, most of whom dream of living outside of Latvia, understand anything at all from the common sense and courage that our nation was able to show at that time?! Thanks to Maksim Krutikova, who is one of the few people of a younger age who collects, researches and distributes the historical evidence of Iecava, Bauska region and writes books so that we all have the opportunity to see what the real history of Latvia is like from the memories and perspectives of experienced people. In my opinion, both old and young people should be told about this,” the young woman assesses.

Several people gathered promised to check if they still have any evidence of the Revival period that could be used for both the future book “Steelers of the Storm of Change” and “youtube. com” for the channel “Latvia’s third revival in Bauska district”.
