On Thursday, May 9, singer Don took part in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place at “Malmo Arena” in Malmo, Sweden. The song performed by the singer ranked among the top ten songs of her semi-final, making it to the final of the competition, which will take place on Saturday, May 11.
“This was a very special day in my life, because I have never been so proud of the Latvian people as I am now. We are the only country whose shape resembles a butterfly, which is a symbol of freedom and every country deserves to be free. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this achievement, and especially to those who voted for Latvia abroad and appreciated our work,” acknowledged Don.
The head of the Latvian delegation, Guntars Gulbiņš, did not hide his excitement after reaching the finals: “The curse of six years has been broken and I must admit that I have never been happier about an event in my professional career than tonight. In spite of the predictions of the bookmakers, who put us in the last place, we were able to prove that there are muscles not only in sports, but also in music. I don’t usually wear a hat, but I would take it off in front of all the voters who helped Latvia experience this”
The representative of Latvia competed with 15 other countries in his semi-final, and the audience’s vote revealed that the representatives of Estonia, the Netherlands, Israel, Switzerland, Armenia, Greece, Norway, Georgia and Austria entered the final together with Latvia. On Saturday, May 11, the representative of Latvia will perform with the 11th round number.
On February 10, singer Don became the winner of Latvian Television’s song contest “Supernova 2024” live with the song “Hollow”, getting the opportunity to represent Latvia at the 68th international Eurovision Song Contest.
