On May 3, the Ventspils stage of the “Latvia’s strongest school 2024” project, organized by the Latvian Powerlifting Federation, took place. The project has been running since 2018 with the aim of introducing school youth to the easiest of the powerlifting disciplines – bench press.

The project competition takes place under significantly simplified rules. 36 young people participated in the Ventspils stage.

Top three girls: In 1st place – Viktorija Ķergalve (Ventspils 6th secondary school), who was able to press a 47.5 kg weight bar. 2nd place – Karina Nikitina (Liepāja State Technical School) with 45 kg. In 3rd place – Sintija Matvejeva (Ventspils 6.vsk) with the result – 35kg.

The best guys: 1st place – Niklāvs Krūmiņš (Dundagas vsk). He pressed a 130kg barbell. In 2nd place – Renārs Ashmanis (Liepāja State Technical University) with 130kg and in 3rd place – Robin Patriks Pūpols (Liepāja 5.vsk), whose result is 95kg.

1st place in the team evaluation – Ventspils 6th secondary school. 2nd place – Dundaga secondary school, 3rd place – Ventspils technical school.
The absolute best athletes are determined by the Wilks coefficient, taking into account the weight of the athlete and the kilograms lifted.

The purpose of the competition is to popularize a healthy lifestyle in Latvia by introducing young people to the sport of powerlifting. In the course of the competition, sports culture and sporting spirit are popularized among young people, an opportunity is provided for young people to prove themselves and fill their time with quality, creating interest in playing sports, as well as identifying the strongest schools and strongest students in Latvian cities and counties.
