From May 12 to June 2, Riga will celebrate Family Month, where everyone is welcome to spend time with their loved ones and enjoy the cultural program prepared by the capital’s municipality – there will be concerts, plays, films, interesting workshops and a number of other activities.
Mother’s Day
In honor of Mother’s Day, which this year will be celebrated on May 12, several concerts and events will be held in the city.
at At 12.00 in the cultural center “Mazā gilde” there will be a drawing theater dedicated to Mother’s Day and a musical improvisation “Musical workshop”. Painter Ingrīda Ivane, musician Aleksejs Bahirs and improviser Varis Klausitajs will take part in it.
On the other hand, at At 12.00, the event “Puppet Animation in the World” will be held in the cultural center “Iļguciems”. As part of it, a selection of animated films from the “Animation Brigade” film studio and an exhibition with dolls of the characters appearing in the films will be shown.
Meanwhile, in the cultural center “Imanta” at At 12.00, the event “Miracles are here!” will take place. Latvian Puppet Theater actress Lienīte Osipova, dance studio “Mazais Andžiņš”, vocal ensemble “Ildzēni” and “Scientific Theater” from Laboratorium.lv will take part in it.
Including in the afternoon, at At 17.00, the “Mīlu Tevi!” festive concert will be performed in the “Ziemeļblāzma” palace of culture, in which the singer Ainars Bumbieris will take part with the accompanying band, but at At 17.00, the big concert of the Riga women’s choirs “Raise your head, White mother!” will be played in the Great Hall of the University of Latvia. The concert is dedicated to the outstanding conductor Ausma Derkēvica.
International Family Day
In honor of the International Family Day, which is celebrated on Wednesday, 15 in May, several concerts, events and a special folk festival dedicated to families will take place during the weekend.
on May 17 at At 17.00, the “Superheroes” concert will be performed by the orchestra “Rīga” and singers Daumantas Kalniņš and Zane Dombrovska in the “Ziemeļblāzma” palace of culture. The concert program, which will cover not only modern superheroes, but also our own Bearcat, Third Father’s Son and others, will also feature music from such popular movies as “Superman” and “Harry Potter”. Free invitations from May 10 at the “Ticket Paradise” box office. On the other hand, on May 18 at At 12.00 the concert “Superheroes” will be heard in the cultural center “Imanta”.
on May 18 from 12.00 to At 17.00, the Family Day event “Hello and Healthy” will take place in the indoor and outdoor spaces of Mežaparka’s Great Stage. The event will include educational lectures, sports activities, a show by the illusionist Pecolli, children will have the opportunity to participate in creative workshops. The Shablovski and Zemish families will play music in the Kokaru hall.
On the other hand, from 12.00 to At 23.00, the family folk festival “Taka” will take place in the quarter “Jaunā Teika” and in the conference center “Fantadroms”, G. Zemgala street 74A. Both young and old are invited to spend an interesting and fulfilling time there. In the concert of the day on the Fountains stage from 12.00 to At 6:30 p.m., folklore ensembles from Latvia and Lithuania, pipers and ethnopercussion group “ZemeDunn” will perform.
Meanwhile, in the outdoor area, there will be activities in tents with songs, dances, musical instruments, storytellers, games and traditions. There will also be a market and a catering area, but a think tank led by Aida Rancāne will be held in the “Fantadroma” conference hall, where sexuality, fertility and wedding rituals, the way to the sun and the first honors of a person’s life will be discussed in the context of traditions.
On the other hand, from 19.00 until 20.30 in the big hall of “Fantadroma” there will be an evening concert “Kur es saucu, tur skanėja!”, in which folklore ensembles “Garataka”, “Upīte”, “Banga”, “Grodi”, “Vilkáči”, Ansis Bētiņš and Artūrs Čukurs, Martynas will take part Pšibišauskas and sisters (Lithuania), “Dārdi” group, Suitu’s wives and ethnopercussion group “ZemeDunn”. Tickets for these concerts can be purchased at the “Bilešu paradīze” ticket office.
The event will end with Night Dances in the big hall of “Fantadroma” under the leadership of folklore group “Garataka”.
International Children’s Day
In honor of the International Children’s Day, June 1, from 11.00 a.m. to 17.00 The Children’s Day Festival will take place in Dome Square. It will include concerts, games, creative workshops and attractions that will delight children of any age.
From 16.00 until At 18.00 in the cultural space “Strops” in the garden of the Bolderāja branch library, an event for children “Feel the surprises” will take place. Performances by students of the Riga Circus School and a concert by “Trio Tresensus” are expected there.
On the other hand, from 16.00 until At 17.00 in the cultural space “Strops” in Ēbelmuiža park in Ziepniekalnė, the Liepāja Puppet Theater performance for small audiences “Achilles’ heel” will take place.
Meanwhile, from 18.00 until At 19.00 in the cultural space “Strops” in the garden of the Čiekurkalns library, an educational interactive lesson for children about fire safety will be held together with Lucy, the mascot of the State Fire and Rescue Service, during the summer holidays, but from
at 19.00 until 20.00 – the musical show of big puppets for children “Kepainaim pa pēdām”.
on June 2 from 11.00 a.m. to At 16.00, Ziemeļblāzma’s 116th children’s festival “Small, small insects” will take place in the park of the “Ziemeļblāzma” cultural palace. The program includes creative workshops, exploratory classes, competitions, attractions and concerts. The event will be hosted by Bizbizmārīte and Bite.
On the other hand, at At 12.00, a concert and a creative workshop of the musical association “BikiGRUPA” will be held in the “Mazā gilde” cultural center. “BikiGRUPA” will take part in the concert – Matīss Circenis, Agnese Malnača, Mārtiņš, Marta Smilga, Patriks Stepe and poet Inese Zandere. The creative workshop will be led by artist Ūnu Laukmane.
