The company “Pasažieru vilciens” told Latvijas Radio that the security system of the particular electric train on the way from Skulte to Riga at the Zvejniekciems stop worked, blocking the entire train. Therefore, the train could not go any further.
The company states: since there is only a single track in this section, the other trains cannot bypass the broken train. Several other flights were therefore affected.
Four trains between Saulkrasti and Skulta and one between Zvejniekciem and Riga were cancelled. In general, the trains were delayed up to half an hour or more.
The company states that the broken train has been taken to the depot.
“If we talk about the specific situation, the reasons may be different. It may just as well be a problem in the settings that have been made in the respective system. Therefore, solving the issue, maybe with the settings, maybe there is no problem at all. You just need to change this and that in the system and maybe in the future this safety circuit won’t work. So I wouldn’t say that maybe there are some defects in the trains, rather it’s about the electronics and some data that has been entered into this system. Sometimes the driver manages to bypass this system and the train can continue traffic. Today, for some reason, the maneuver failed,” explained “Passenger Train” representative Edgars Butāns.
