There will be no shortage of rural schools, which in the near future will have a considerable challenge to ensure that children learn a European Union language instead of the usual Russian language in many places. Solutions for this are also being gradually sought in Rubenes elementary school in Valmiera region. The director points out here that for the school to provide quality education, the most important thing is a clear and stable system.
At Rubene elementary school, students are currently learning Russian as a second foreign language. The director of the school, Ivars Adamsons, says that so far no parent has mentioned that his child could refuse to learn the Russian language this year, if the Saeima decides on it in the final reading. However, if this were to happen, it would be almost impossible for the school to ensure the learning of another second foreign language already in the next school year.
