Free guest performance “EMPIRE” by the Polish theater collective “Zone of Freedom of Speech”

Saturday, May 18, at 20.00 Dirty Deal Teatro will host a free guest performance “EMPIRE” by the Polish theater collective “Freedom of Speech” (directed by A. Borkowska).

The performance “Empire” is a performative installation created by alternating the image of the walking forest of “Macbeth” and the experiences of border crossers and humanitarian aid workers on the Polish-Belarusian border. The creative team drew inspiration from the works of Shakespeare and the humanitarian crisis at the border to rethink survival strategies along the way. How can nature support people in crisis, help those who are fleeing, and how do authorities respond to gestures of solidarity? And finally, how much unpunished evil is there in the authorities?

  • The show is in Polish with subtitles in Latvian and English.
  • After the show, a discussion about the situation on the EU-Belarus border.
  • Free entry with advance registration.
  • More information about the show and its creative team.

The play was created with the support of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival within the framework of the ShakespeareOFF competition.

The performance of the guest performance “Impērija” in Latvia is financially supported by the EEA and Norwegian grant program “Active citizens fund” and organized by the association “I want to help refugees” in cooperation with the association “Latvian Young Theater Institute”.
