In Latvia, 34% of the population hope that their standard of living will rise within the next five years, while in the European Union (EU) an average of 15% hope for an increase in standard of living, according to the latest “Eurobarometer” survey.

In the survey, 39% of Latvian residents expressed the opinion that their standard of living will not change, while in the EU, on average, 49% of the surveyed residents think so.

On the other hand, 19% of the population of Latvia indicated in the survey that they expect the standard of living to decrease in the next five years, while in the EU, on average, such pessimistic forecasts were expressed by 32% of the population.

Evaluating the future of the EU, 69% of Latvian residents said in the survey that they look at it optimistically, while this assessment was slightly lower in the EU average – 61%. On the other hand, 26% of surveyed Latvian residents and 35% of EU residents were pessimistic about the future of the EU.

The EP’s spring “Eurobarometer” survey was conducted by the research agency “Verian” from February 7 to March 3 in all 27 EU member states. The survey was conducted face-to-face with additional video interviews in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland and Malta. A total of 26,411 interviews were conducted. The EU results were weighted according to the population of each country.
