Dictator with Winslet’s face. Review of the series “The Regime”.

--

If you look more closely at the personalities in the “Regime” team, you quickly come to the conclusion that the series has substantial artistic ambitions. The creator and scriptwriter of the series, Will Tracy, has also worked on one of the most awarded series of recent years, “Succession”. The cast includes several faces seen in American, European cinema and TV. The music composer of the series is Aleksandrs Desplès. The winner of two “Oscar” awards is certainly one of the leading composers of screen works in the world. He regularly composes music for Wes Anderson films, and has also composed soundtracks for films directed by Roman Polanski, Terrence Malick, George Clooney and several of the most notable French cinema works of the last decades. British director Stephen Freer, who directed three of the six episodes, is no less a superstar. One of the rare directors who has received equal acclaim for his comedies and dramas, in recent years he has focused more on TV series. Among his most famous films are Philomena, The Queen, which brought Helen Mirren an Oscar, and Dangerous Liaisons. With the last of the named, he has definitely written his name in the cinema history books. The director of the remaining three episodes, New Zealander Jessica Hobbs, is less well-known, but no novice either. She is the director of the series “Kronis”, the second most productive series. Briefly outlining the impressive team of creators of “Regime”, it goes without saying that this is a series with an expensive budget.
