JURMALA RUNNING FESTIVAL HELD IN A POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE – Recreation

On May 4, the Jūrmala Running Festival was held for the fourteenth time on Majori beach, which this year was held in large numbers, celebrating the Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia. The Jūrmala Running Festival is a unique folk sports event that gathers running and clubbing enthusiasts and professionals of all ages, and is also the only mass running event, the distances of which are located on the beach sand.

“It is a pleasure to see that the number of participants is increasing every year and many choose to spend the holidays actively with their family and friends. A particularly positive atmosphere is felt in the festive atmosphere. I would like to congratulate each participant for overcoming their challenges and goals.” Arnis Lazdiņš, representative of Maratoni.lv, recognized the organizer after the event.

The running took place in three distances located on the beach sand – a 5 and 10 km race without age restrictions and a special 0.5-1 km distance for children. Andrejs Dmitrijevs was the fastest in the 10 km distance, Diāna Liepiņa was the fastest in the women’s evaluation. Salvis Gruševs was the winner in the five-kilometer distance, while Marta Špundžane won among the women.

In pole vaulting at a distance of 10 and 21 km, participants competed in three different distances in women’s and men’s competition. The judges recognized Kaspars Roki as the winner in the 21 km distance. In the women’s competition – Daci Janeku. Roman Žabinskis won the 10 km distance among men. Among women – Baiba Bolgzda. On the other hand, everyone could start in the 5 km distance and the participants were not divided by age. Renat Vilipsons and Santa Tobiesa took the victory in this distance.

All finishers received a commemorative medal of the Jūrmala Running Festival. Lauris Lizbovskis, one of the most popular leaders of sports events, took care of a good mood during the competition, while the DJ school of Jurmala provided the musical performance of the event.
