The European Parliament elections will be held on June 8, 2024. Citizens of Latvia and citizens of other European Union member states who have reached the age of 18 on election day have the right to participate in elections.

Voting at the polling station

On election day, polling stations will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time. A valid Latvian citizen’s passport or identity card (eID card) is required for voting.

Citizens of Latvia with the right to vote, who will not be in Latvia during the 2024 European Parliament elections, will have the opportunity to vote abroad. Abroad, it will be possible to vote in a total of 50 polling stations, of which 38 will be located in Latvian diplomatic and consular missions.

Voters have the right to choose any polling station in Latvia or abroad without prior application. The list of polling stations is available on the website of the Central Election Commission.

Voting by mail

It is important to remember that the opportunity to vote by mail is available only to those Latvian voters who are staying abroad.

It will be possible to apply for voting by mail from May 4 to May 31, 2024, using the “Voter data management” e-service on the State Administration Services portal (Latvija.lv). In the e-service, the voter will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the information on the voting procedure, download the voting materials and choose the ballot paper that corresponds to the list of candidates for which the voter wants to vote.

The voter must print election materials, make a choice and send the vote to the precinct commission for voting by mail in Riga (address: Smilšu iela 4, Riga, Latvia, LV-1050).

Detailed information on postal voting procedures can be found in the Instructions for postal voting in European Parliament elections.
