Daugavpils City Festival 2024

With the approach of spring, Daugavpils has begun a special activity and preparations for the City Festival. From May 31 to June 2, Latvia’s second largest city invites you to celebrate its 749th birthday by enjoying bright concerts, new tastes and experiencing bright emotions.

We will celebrate the 749th birthday of Daugavpils for three days. From the afternoon of May 31 until the evening of June 2, the city will be resounding with concerts, congratulations and festive joy. Little visitors to the festival together with their parents will be able to embark on breathtaking adventures and have fun in the attractions of the Family Park. Gourmets will definitely appreciate the festive feasts, snacks and refreshments offered by outdoor cafes. On the other hand, for those who would like to treat themselves and their loved ones with traditional, beautiful, practical or unusual gifts during the City Festival, it will definitely be worth visiting the Holiday Market.

For the first time in the history of Daugavpils city holidays, “Tūrisma iela” will operate. In it, when planning your summer vacation, everyone will be able to get new ideas for an unforgettable vacation right here in Daugavpils, elsewhere in Latvia, as well as in Lithuania and Estonia. For two days – on May 31 and June 1, representatives of the tourism industry of the Baltic States will gather at Gimnazija Street, who will give the best advice and recommendations to plan a great vacation for different audiences.

The Daugavpils city festival will reach its climax on Saturday, June 1. In celebration of International Children’s Day, activities for children, young people and families will take place in Dubrovina Park. The city’s children and youth collectives will delight with their musical performances, BJC “Youth” will offer exciting, informative and unusual activities. A special concert is also expected, in which the professional orchestras of Vienības nama together with the young and talented citizens of Daugavpils will sing the city. This time, too, municipal authorities, schools, cultural institutions, companies, associations, creative collectives and other organizations will unite in the Holiday procession, which has become an inseparable holiday tradition of the city of Daugavpils. On the other hand, special musical surprises are expected on the evenings of May 31 and June 1, when the special guests of the festival will take to the big festive stage in Vienības Square.

In order to have the opportunity to exercise properly during the holidays, special thought has also been given to sports activities. On June 1, at Esplanade Park, the little champions will be able to test their athletic prowess at the “Meet Athletics” event. On the other hand, on June 2, the Youth and Sports Festival will take place at the Daugavpils Olympic Center with competitions and other sports activities, which will kick off this summer’s cycle of sports activities in the city.

Daugavpils The city festival will end on June 2 with historical atmosphere in the Daugavpils fortress. Festival visitors will have the opportunity to rediscover the pages of the history of the fortress, get to know cultural and tourist attractions, participate in the ceremonial opening of the Nicholas Gate and the raising of the fortress flag, as well as enjoy festive performances and the special atmosphere of the fortress.

UNTIL APRIL 18, STAGE ARTISTS CAN APPLY TO PARTICIPATE IN CITY HOLIDAY CONCERTS

In order to make the City Festival even more spectacular, Daugavpils City Municipality and the House of Unity invite soloists, orchestras, instrumental groups, vocal studios, dance groups and other artistic collectives to apply for concerts that will take place in Andreja Pumpuras Square, Dubrovina Park and on the stage located in S. Mihoelsa street and Riga street intersection.

UNTIL APRIL 18, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS CAN APPLY FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE CITY OF DAUGAVPILS CELEBRATION “EDUCATION CITY”

This year, during the City Holidays, on June 1 from From 12.00 to 16.00, the Education City will operate on the section of Riga Street from Cietokšņa Street to Mihoelsa Street. We invite secondary schools, vocational schools, higher education institutions, interest education institutions, learning centers and other educational institutions to apply for participation in the Education City and to tell the residents and guests of Daugavpils about themselves.

EDUCATION CAMPUS APPLICATION QUESTIONNAIRE

UNTIL MAY 15, WE INVITE YOU TO APPLY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CITY MARCH OF DAUGAVPILS

One of the biggest and most magnificent events of the City’s holiday celebrations will be the traditional Holiday procession, which will take place on Saturday, June 1. Daugavpils companies, organizations, educational institutions and other collectives are invited to apply for participation in it until May 15. This year, there will also be a competition, which will reward the most creative and imaginative marchers.

The march will start at 13.00 from the railway station, the climax will be followed by the official opening of the festival and a concert at Vienības Square.

Participants of the march can apply their team to the competition by making a mark in the application form. The participants will be evaluated in 2 nominations: “The most imaginative team” (the originality and creativity of the costumes, coherence, the materials used and their use, technical implementation, as well as the relevance to the theme or concept of the event will be evaluated here) and “The most cohesive team” (priority evaluation criteria – audience involvement and reaction to the group’s performance, as well as creating the overall impression and atmosphere at the event).

To apply for the march, you must fill out the attached form and send it to the e-mail address [email protected] by May 15, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. The application must include the name of the collective and the preliminary number of march participants (from 10 to 50), the contact person’s e-mail address, phone number, as well as a short description of the collective (no longer than 40 words).

From April 29 to May 17, the municipality of Daugavpils invites attraction service providers to apply for participation in the Daugavpils city festival, which will take place from May 31 to June 2.
