Latvian hockey players lose in the quarter-finals of the U-18 World Championship, giving Canada a test / Article

In the first third, Latvian hockey players scored two goals, but did not allow their opponents to gain a more secure advantage. The Canadians scored the third goal in the middle of the last third, but the fourth puck flew into an empty Latvian goal a minute before the end of the match.

Earlier in the group stage, the Canadian national team shot no less than six pucks in the opponent’s goal in all games.

In the first games of the quarter-finals, the USA youth continued their winning streak, beating the Swiss 4-0. A 3:2 victory over the Czech Republic ensured the Slovaks a place in the semi-finals, while the Swedes defeated the Finnish national team 2:1 in the Nordic duel. Meanwhile, in the fight to stay in the elite, the Norwegians beat relegated Kazakhstan 6-5 in the shootout.

In the semi-finals, Canada will play against the Swedes, while the opponents of the USA national team will be Slovakian hockey players.

Previously, in the group stage, the Latvian national team took 4th place in the five-team subgroup A, whereas the Canadians remained undefeated in subgroup B. Led by head coach Oļegs Sorokin, the Latvian hockey players lost to Finland (1:3) in the group stage, their only victory was against their peers from Slovakia (5:3), and they also suffered defeats against the USA national team (1:7) and Norwegians (3:5).

At the World Championship, the semi-finals will take place on May 4, and the medal winners will be announced in the finals on May 5.
