Without Balcer and Kēniņš, but Dzierkalu and Abolus are waiting for us to arrive. The champions have been determined in the Swiss and Swedish hockey championships. Of the four Latvian ice hockey players who played in the final series and were part of the bronze team last year, two will not go to the World Championship (WC). Latvian national hockey team on Friday and Saturday Arena Riga will play test matches with Norway.

Unpleasant news came from Switzerland in the first half of the week. Before the seventh game of the final series, it became known that Zurich Lion striker Rudolph Balzer’s injury is, however, more serious than initially reported. Rudolph did not play the last match and will not be able to help the national team in the world championship either. Without Balzer Lion defeated the Lausanne team 2-0 in the decisive game and won the championship title. Ronalds Ķeniņš played eight minutes and 22 seconds in the losing team, and the next day the press service of the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) reported that Ķēniņš will not play in the World Cup due to an injury. Before that, it was already known that defender Kristofers Bindulis will not be able to play for half a year due to a hand injury sustained in the test match against Switzerland.

On Wednesday, the ranks of the national team were supplemented in Sweden with Bryn’s ticket to Elitserien merited defender Kārlis Čukste, while on Thursday the first training session of the national team this spring will be held by Germany’s vice-champion goalkeeper Kristers Gudljevskis.
