Families with children with special needs meet at the “May Bee” event

The Latvian Children’s Fund in Jelgava, in cooperation with the “Pilsētas elpa” restaurant, gathered families with children with special needs for the second time on the island of Posta. About 300 people attended the “May Bee” charity event.

On May 1, families participated in sports activities, planted sunflowers, made bird cages, sang, danced and did creative activities on Post Island. Also, the participants of the event enjoyed a treat prepared by the organizers and supporters, as in a real celebration.

It should be noted that this is already the second charity event organized by the Latvian Children’s Fund in Jelgava and “Pilsētas elpa” for families with special children. Last year, during Advent, the charity event “Grinch brunch” was held, and this year, on May 1, the event “May Bee” was held. The event is organized with the aim of promoting the integration of families with children with special needs into society and the creation of a mutually friendly environment. The circle of people with whom these families socialize is very narrow, so it is extremely important to create a supportive environment for these children, so that the whole family has the opportunity to be together, get to know other families, make friends and even for a moment forget about everyday worries.

Diāna Gailuma, head of the Latvian Children’s Foundation in Jelgava, emphasizes that for the event to take place with such a wide scope and to be successful, a lot of organizations and people of heart got involved in the work and gave their heart. “A huge thank you to everyone who supported and got involved,” said D. Gailuma, at the same time thanking every family who found the opportunity to come and celebrate the holiday together.
