Restoration works on Osta Street have been completed

On Saturday, May 4, Ostas iela in Ventspils will be opened for traffic again in the section from Jānis to Dārzu iela. The restoration of Ostas Street cost 2.23 million euros and is the last stage in the project of restoration of the access roads of the port implemented by the Ventspils Freeport Authority and co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.

Ostas iela in Ventspils is not only a street close to the port, as it is right next to the piers of the left bank of Venta, but also a place where tourism, culture and entertainment activities take place. Also, this approximately 600-meter-long section has various communications infrastructure. The major reconstruction works in this section took place in the mid-1990s, when it was transformed from a worn-out embankment into a luxurious harbor promenade. In almost 30 years, the street surface had worn out and needed to be replaced. The main reconstruction works were also related to the street surface and underground communications.

The construction works were carried out by SIA “VIA” on the order of the Ventspils Freeport Authority. Their total cost is 2.23 million euros, of which 1.7 million euros are co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund.

The reconstruction of Ostas ielas was the last stage in the project of restoration and reconstruction of access roads implemented by the Ventspils Freeport Authority, in which 19 sections of access roads with a length of almost 13 kilometers were renovated or constructed. The total attributable costs of the project – 18.6 million euros. The financing of the EU Cohesion Fund in this project is 15.296 million euros.

Since 2007, implementing three large-scale projects co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund, the Ventspils Freeport Authority has renovated or constructed 75 street sections in Ventspils, investing more than 80 million euros in the city’s street infrastructure.

Project no. 6.1.1.0/17/I/001 “Development of access roads to the terminals and industrial zones in the territory of the Ventspils Freeport” is implemented within the framework of the 6.1.1 specific support goal “Increase the security level of large ports and improve the mobility of the transport network” of the operational program “Growth and employment” .
