The company “Kronis” simply covers the information about the importer in Russia on the packaging / Article

Sometimes human curiosity leads to unexpected results. A young man bought cold soup from the company “Kronis”, saw a painted text on the package and decided to remove it with acetone. It turned out that there was “smeared” information about Russia.

After visiting several grocery stores, “4th studio” concluded that there are various standing packs on sale – both with inscriptions in Russian and without them, with and without an importer in Russia. We also managed to find a standing package on which the text has been painted over. “Studio 4” also tried to clean this paint with acetone. A little effort, and it turned out that the company tried to hide information about the importer in Russia.

SIA “Kronis” board member Aivars Svarenieks explained that the company exported part of its production to Russia until the spring of 2022. Exactly in March 2022, the pre-ordered batch of packaging was received from the supplier with information that also reflected the importer of the product in Russia (mandatory requirement of Russian legislation).

“The packaging batch was intended for various types of our products. “Kronis SIA” stopped exporting to Russia from the spring of 2022, but the received packaging was used in production, because writing it off would be disproportionately expensive for the company, and at that time, the next batch could be ordered only after six months ,” explained Svarenieks.

In order not to create a false impression that “Kronis” exports products to Russia, it was decided to correct the packaging label – to cover the inappropriate text.

“Since our products have a long shelf life (up to 3 years), certain types of products with obscured information can still be found in stores,” admitted the company’s board member and emphasized that “Kronis” does not cooperate with the aggressor country, but closely cooperates with Ukraine. as evidenced by the gratitude received from the Embassy of Ukraine.

The representative of the Food and Veterinary Service (PVD), Māris Eiklons, when asked about such an action, explained that the labeling of the product must be true, it must not mislead the buyer.

“The information indicated on the label could be divided into two parts – one is the mandatory requirements that must be indicated, and then there are the voluntary requirements – the company determines what information it would like to indicate,” Eiklon explained.

If any of the mandatory requirements were covered, the answer would be unequivocal – it should not be done. However, from the point of view of labeling, no violations are seen in this action.

PVD believes that the company may have achieved the opposite effect with this action, because people observe the “hiding of traces” and they become interested in what exactly they are hiding.

“I understand the company very well, these stand-up packages, which contained the product, are not cheap packaging, and of course these stocks must be used,” admitted the representative of PVD. “The company better use this [Krievijas] packaging, is sold than it would have actually exported, because the company has said that in connection with the war in Ukraine, the company has stopped exporting,” Eiklon said.
