Not all employees of the municipal institutions and structural units of Talsi region have agreed to switch to a four-day work week, Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Inga Bērziņa (JV) said in an interview on Latvian Television program “Morning Panorama”.

The management of Talsi region has confirmed to the Ministry of Local Governments that the majority of employees in local government institutions agreed to a shorter working week, but not all of them agreed to it. Bērziņa explained that the Talsu County Council did not see any special risks that problems might arise with employees in municipal structures.

As reported, in April, the majority of the employees of the municipal institutions and structural units of the Talsa region were assigned part-time working hours, which will also affect the working hours of the institutions and structural units themselves, informed the representative of the municipality Inita Fedko.

As announced, the municipality of Talsa region, due to financial savings, has set part-time working hours for the majority of employees in the municipality, that is, 32 hours a week. So far, 44 employees have not agreed to part-time working hours.

The adopted decision will also affect the work of individual institutions and structural units, for example, there will be changes in the working hours of libraries, cultural and community centers. Each of the institutions and structural units will determine the most appropriate working time organization by itself, after evaluating the visitors’ habits.

City and parish administrations will be open for residents from Monday to Thursday, with working hours from 8 am to 5 pm, and on Tuesdays from 9 am to 6 pm.

The reduction from the usual 40 working hours per week to 32 does not apply to educators and certain positions, to which it is not possible to apply this condition due to the specifics of the work. For example, for deputy directors of certain educational institutions, attendants, wardrobes, administrators, technical staff, household managers, teacher’s assistants, cooks and cooks’ assistants, cleaners.

Senior inspectors and inspectors of the municipal police, employees of the “Lauciene” nursing home, head and deputy head of the registry office will also work normal working hours, namely 40 hours a week, to ensure the continuity of services.

The part-time working hours for the central administration will be set from June 1, when the reorganization will be completed.

From June 1, the specialists of the central administration will work from Monday to Thursday. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Five working days a week, applying shift work, will be set for the municipal Visitor Reception Center, Information and Communication Technologies and Tourism Department employees, as well as bus and minibus drivers.

Changes will be published on the municipal websites “www.talsunovads.lv” during the working hours of the institutions, structural units, Central Administration; in the contact information section.
