The allowed speed is increased on the Jelgava highway this summer

Valsts SIA “Latvijas Valsts ceļi” informs that from May 1, the maximum permitted speed on the Jelgava highway (A8) from Riga to Jaunolainei has been increased to 100 km/h.

The company states that the driving speed was not changed there during the summer season last year, however, after evaluating the traffic accident statistics, it was concluded that the permitted driving speed can be increased at this stage in the summer. And this means that from Wednesday it is allowed to drive at a speed of up to 100 km/h in the mentioned section.

The State Roads of Latvia reminds us that road signs indicate the maximum driving speed, which must not be exceeded, but it is the driver’s responsibility to evaluate the road condition, driving conditions, the technical condition of the vehicle and his own abilities, and to choose an appropriate driving speed up to the maximum allowed.

Also, drivers are invited to treat the right to drive a vehicle responsibly and take care of their own and other road users’ safety, not to perform daring and prohibited maneuvers and to carefully evaluate the need to perform each planned overtaking maneuver, which is the most dangerous in traffic.
