Those who received the salaries in the envelopes could have received not only the office workers of the “Vienotības” party, but also persons close to the party in other positions, including the prime minister’s office, former party member and long-time head of the “Vienotības” office Normunds Orleāns claimed to Latvian Television (LTV) program “Panorāma” on Wednesday. .

LTV reports that these persons have given evidence to the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB), denying the information.

Orleāns told the program that in the internal slang of the party members, the envelopes with cash were called “shipments”, which were prepared by the then general secretary of the party, Artis Kampars, but the employees organized their delivery to the addressees.

He has reported to KNAB about the long-term payment of enveloped salaries in the office of the Prime Minister. This allegedly happened in 2021 and 2022, however, Orleans did not name the specific recipients of the envelopes.

The correspondence of the party in LTV’s possession shows that Ieva Zīberga, the advisor of the then Prime Minister Krišjāņa Kariņa (JV), who is currently the head of the office of the current Prime Minister Evikas Siliņa (JV), was also interested in receiving the shipment. Sieberga denied it to the program, as well as the then general secretary Kampars also denied the existence of such “shipments”.
