“It seems to me that in the period of post-war regulation, a mandatory part of this process should be the release of political prisoners, because these people in Russia are behind bars for their only crime – disobeying the Russian government. Of course they all have to be released. But there are a number of Russian political prisoners who may not survive until the end of the war because they are kept in life-threatening conditions.”
The wife of Kremlin oppositionist Vladimir Kara-Murza emphasizes that many political prisoners suffer from various diseases that threaten their lives.
“Alexei Gorinov, who suffers from a lung disease, Alexandra Skachilenko, who has many diseases, Igor Baryshnikov, who is in prison with a tube in his stomach, Zariva Musayeva, who has diabetes and is no longer helped by medicine at all.
She continues: “Yegor Balazhekin, a 17-year-old teenager who was recently sentenced to six years in prison for a failed attempt to set fire to the military commissariat with a Molotov cocktail. He is 17 years old. The boy has chronic liver disease. His condition worsened dramatically behind bars. I believe that all tools should be used to save these people.”
