Last Saturday, April 27, the Great Cleanup took place throughout Latvia. The residents of Daugavpils were also actively involved in the cleaning process, cleaning the city’s parks, squares, yards, territories of municipal institutions and green areas and collecting more than 25 tons of garbage.
The progress of the big cleanup in Daugavpils was coordinated by the Daugavpils State City Municipal Authority “Community Administration”. According to the observations of the institution’s specialists, this year the activity of organizations, institutions and also individual cleaners was just as high compared to last year. During the campaign, 49 places were officially cleaned, approximately 2,150 garbage bags were given to cleaners. According to official data, 2,382 people participated in the cleanup, which collected a total of 25.42 tons of different types of waste, incl. bulky waste, construction debris and used tires, as well as 28 m3 of foliage and 30 m3 a branch.
All unsorted waste was taken to the landfill “Cinīši”, while everything that is suitable for recycling and “green” waste was taken to the waste reception area in Liginishki. The collected branches will be processed into wood chips and used for heating purposes.
The Municipal Utilities Board thanks every resident who participated in the Great Cleanup to make our city cleaner and tidier.
Meanwhile, in the city, the elimination of spontaneous dumps continues, as the forces of communal services clear the forests and other places where domestic and construction waste has been illegally dumped.
