The historical structure of the city of Jurmala is dominated by low-rise seasonal residences, which are characterized by woodworking traditions and the quality of execution. The purpose of the Jūrmala Historical Architecture Award is to draw public attention to this architectural heritage, which is important not only for the city of Jūrmala, but also for Latvia.

From the buildings commissioned in 2023 by the Jūrmala City Construction Board, 15 of the most qualitatively restored and reconstructed historical buildings were nominated this year and submitted to the jury for evaluation.

Among the projects nominated for the award are culturally and historically valuable buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and the beginning of the last century, buildings with a historical background, architectural monuments of local importance, culturally and historically valuable buildings to be preserved, architectural monuments of local and national importance.

The jury of the competition, which consists of architects and cultural heritage specialists, after evaluating the presence of cultural and historical substance, the balance of the sets of constructive and decorative building elements and how the buildings fit into the surrounding environment, will determine five finalists, who will be honored at the Jūrmala historical award ceremony in September.
