In Iecava, widows are blooming, in Bauska, prosperity is moving – BauskasDzive.lv

Every spring, bright widows were planted in the flowerbed of Kalna Street near Bauska’s Town Hall. This year, there is no sign of prosperity here.

In spring, widows are traditionally the first flowers to enter the greenery after winter. They are very cold hardy and even short term cold hardy, so these flowers are more likely to survive when the weather turns nasty in the spring. This year, Bauska is not in a hurry to create brightness. While in Iecava widows were already arranged for Easter, in Bauska central flowerpots were “decorated” with pinched pine branches. The first spring flowers appeared in the flowerpots of Bauska Rātslaukuma a week ago.

“Is the city of Bauska poorer than Iecava, if funds cannot be allocated to restore the plantations already in early spring?” Inese from Bauškė was interested.

Gatis Pauniņš, head of the Bauska city department, explained that the Bauska city department has its own vision for decorations, including flower pots. “I don’t think we have missed anything. Widows are arranged in flower pots, but they quickly fade and lose their beauty. Market research has been carried out, a cooperation agreement has been concluded with SIA “Ints un Co”, which supplies summer flowers. We are also in the process of concluding a contract for the supply of perennial seedlings and conifers. It will be gradual, new beds will not be created, but the existing ones will be transformed, Kalna Street and Karpa Garden will be more magnificent and beautiful,” said G. Pauniņš.

“Widows are the only ones that are planted in such weather conditions, and in Bauska we decided not to do that, but to plant summer flowers right away. We hope that the changing conditions will end soon and we will be able to plant summer flowers both in hanging pots and in greenery,” comments Līga VasiŁska, head of the Bauska association administration. “This is a winter month. The weather conditions change every year, there is no point in planting so that the flowers die,” said Aivars Maceks, Deputy Chairman of the Bauska County Council.

“We communicate continuously with the maintenance of the urban environment about the maintenance of the existing flower beds. There was a meeting, we discussed everything in detail, and a defect report was drawn up, in which we pointed out the untidy object. The gardener from the city of Bauska will cooperate with “Vizii Urban” and show how the beds should look, what exactly needs to be done. “Vizii Urban” promises to improve and properly maintain the beds,” concludes G. Pauniņš.
