Gulbene district high school basketball players win third place – Gulbene district – Dzirkstele.lv

Last week, the 77th Latvian school basketball spartakiade took place, in which boys born between 2008 and 2010 competed in the finals of the spartakiade at the Gulbene sports center.

In the matches of seven teams, the champions of this group and the winners of the prized places were determined. The Ķekava high school team convincingly won the 1st place, the Rīga O. Kalpakas folk arts and crafts elementary school took the 2nd place, the boys of the Gulbene district high school took the 3rd place.

The following played in the Gulbene district high school team: Ralfs Aleksandrovs, Matīss Lācis, Edgars Bērziņš, Raitis Puškis, Markus Rauza, Alens Belyaevs, Rets Eduards Weinberg, Niklāvs Veselovs, Haralds Romanovskis, Raivo Krastins.

“In the winter there were regional preliminaries where teams were selected for the national finals. After winning the Latvian Youth Basketball League, our goal was to win in this competition as well, but we had left all our emotions and strength in Valmiera. We were not able to regroup for the next competition in such a short time. The Ķekava team played us convincingly and deservedly won. A painful but valuable experience for us,” coach Oskars Viksna tells the newspaper.
