In Latvia, 31% of drivers are superstitious, according to the data collected by the car rental and full-service leasing service provider “Avis”.

Among them, 17% of drivers believe that special care should be taken on the road on Friday the 13th. On the other hand, 11% change their route if they see a black cat crossing the road.

The survey concluded that drivers aged 50 to 59 most often consider themselves to be superstitious.

Every fourth (25%) driver in Latvia has a talisman or some other thing in their car, to which its owner attributes significant meaning and power.

Meanwhile, 27% of drivers believe that a car’s color affects road safety, while 9% of drivers believe that the numbers or letters on a car’s license plate can affect road safety and luck.

11% of drivers believe that buying a car should be done in the right phase of the moon or on a financially successful date. This answer was most often given by respondents aged 40 to 49 and 60 to 74 years.

The survey was conducted by “Avis” in cooperation with the research agency “Norstat”, surveying 752 drivers in Latvia between the ages of 18 and 74 in April.
