At the request of Bez Tabu, a representative of the largest building manager in Latvia, Riga Building Manager, has organized visits to the basements of two apartment buildings. The experience is drastically different. If one apartment building resembles an improvised dump, in the basement of the other, residents have taken care of cleanliness and order.

Ideally, the manager should work with the basement in the same way as any common space, because they are no different. The only difference is that the residents do not go to throw away the old stove in the stairwell, they do it in the basement. Basement cleaning costs money, waste is taken out in large containers. Two years ago, the basements of 200 houses were cleaned, last year it was 500 houses, this year it will be already 1000 houses. It all costs.

Figuratively speaking, the residents are shooting themselves in the foot – littering the premises where they would need to stay in an emergency, as well as spending household funds that could be invested in improving the condition of the building.

The most conscientious residents are invited not to stop at the removal of waste from the basements, but to improve them so that they can be used immediately if necessary.
