On May 16 of this year at 10.00 an informative practical seminar “Branch with added value: SIVA – the path to a successful career in hospitality and business” will be held at the State Agency for Social Integration (SIVA). The event is organized to promote professional development and cooperation in the field of hospitality and business, inform about the development of the industry and reduce stereotypes about the employment of people with disabilities.

The event will take place in person and will be live streamed on SIVA’s Facebook channel. Hospitality and entrepreneurship educators, employers, students, alumni, organizations and anyone planning a career in the industry are invited to participate. Three panel discussions will take place at the event, where industry professionals and students will share practical experience, discuss and give recommendations for the development of the industry.

In the first panel discussion “Education as value! Education Opportunities and Importance in Hospitality and Business” will discuss the essential learning elements and skills required for a successful career in the hospitality and business industry. It will be attended by industry experts from SIVA and vocational high school “Victoria”, as well as a representative from SIA “MAXIMA Latvija”.

In the second panel discussion, “Job opportunities in the field of hospitality and entrepreneurship. What does the employer want?” industry requirements, trends and career opportunities will be highlighted. Representatives from the State Employment Agency, Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association, Tukuma Tourism Information Center, as well as SIVA lecturers and graduates will take part in the discussion.

In the third panel discussion “Future trends. The development of labor demand and supply in the field of hospitality and business” will discuss curriculum elements and content aspects that promote successful professional development in the hospitality and business sectors. State and industry representatives from SIVA, the Ministry of Welfare and the State Employment Agency will participate in the conversation.

Employers from various industries will participate in the workshop to explore future opportunities to address labor shortages and participate in discussions about employing people with disabilities. With us will be representatives from the guest accommodation and catering industry companies: Hotel Jūrmala SPA, Mogotel Hotel Group, Promenade Hotel Liepāja, Sports and recreation complex “Zemgale”, SIA “Elizabetes Centrs”, A/S “Lido”, SIA “MAXIMA Latvija ”, store chain “top!” and many others.

The seminar has become a tradition of SIVA, where every year attention is paid to important topics in the field of employment and education, in order to promote the opportunities of people with disabilities to integrate into the labor market and society, as well as to educate and inform the public (including employers) about the employment of people with disabilities.

According to the labor market forecasts of the Ministry of Economy, “Hotel and restaurant service” is one of the TOP 20 groups of educational programs in which the biggest labor shortage is predicted until 2030. This indicates the relevance of this industry and the need for highly qualified specialists.

SIVA currently offers state-funded education and rehabilitation for people with disabilities and foreseeable disabilities up to retirement age in various programs, including in the hospitality and business sectors. SIVA is available both in the short-cycle professional higher education program “Hotel Service Management” and in various continuing education programs related to this industry and service provision.

SIVA is a direct administrative institution under the supervision of the Minister of Welfare, whose purpose is to promote the social integration of people with disabilities and persons with functional disorders, to provide the opportunity to receive vocational rehabilitation and to obtain vocational secondary or first-level vocational higher education.
