All comments – 26 shared electric scooter parking areas have been marked in Old Riga

The Outdoor Space and Mobility Department of the Riga City Council (RD) has marked the first 26 areas for placing micromobility tools in Old Riga, LETA informs the agency in the municipality.

According to the new binding regulations of the municipality, micromobility tools will only be allowed to be placed in these areas in Old Riga from May 1.

The new micromobility equipment parking places have been introduced on the waterfront, K. Valdemāra street, Zigfrīda Annas Meierovics boulevard, Aspazijas boulevard, Kalku street and elsewhere. All places can be viewed in the “Traffic and Mobility” section of the “www.georiga.eu” website.

The municipality plans to expand the zone by marking new zones over time in places where leaving vehicles until now caused inconvenience to pedestrians and other road users

LETA already announced that the Riga City Council supported speed and parking restrictions for shared electric scooters.

From May 1, shared electric scooters and bicycles can be parked in Old Riga only in specially created places, which means that the entire Old Riga will be in the parking prohibition zone. On the other hand, from June 1, this zone will be extended to Elizabetes iela and will gradually be introduced in the entire territory of the historical center of Riga.

In the speed limit zone, in the historical center of Riga, the speed of a shared vehicle may not exceed 20 kilometers per hour.

Only vehicles equipped with a system that regulates speed and parking will be allowed for the provision of shared vehicle services, adapting them to the shared vehicle speed limit zones and parking prohibition zones indicated on the map.

Improperly parked vehicles will be moved by the service provider immediately, but not later than within three hours. It will be controlled by the Riga Municipal Police (RPP).
