Development of scientific research works – a step closer to further studies – ZZ.lv

In the second half of April, Dobele State Gymnasium hosted a project work conference for 12th-grade students of Dobele region, where young people had to present their independently developed project or scientific research work, which is a large-scale mandatory learning task at the end of secondary education, informs the Dobele region Education Board.

At the conference, young people, demonstrating the communication and communication skills they learned at school, successfully presented their works, four of which were forwarded for presentation at the Scientific Research Conference in the Zemgale region.

What topics were developed, who were the youth job advisers – consultants and what are the achievements learned on May 8 in the Zemgale region?

  • The work of Beāte Šmuksta, a 12th-grade student of DVĖ, “Limiting the spruce eight-toothed bark beetle (lps typographus): an example of AS Latvijas valsts meži nature park Tērvetė”, pedagogue Inese Didže. Second degree diploma obtained at the regional conference (107 points). The work has been nominated for the 3rd stage of the ZPD conference – for presentation at the 48th National Conference.
  • The work “Evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of burdock extracts” by Silma Samantas Vaishvilas, a 12th grade student of DVĖ, scientific consultant for the development of the work – researcher of the Institute of Horticulture Karina Juhņeviča – Radenkova, pedagogue Gita Heistere. III grade diploma (99 points) obtained at the regional conference.
  • “Amount of carotenoids, anthocyanins, phenols, antioxidative activity in carrot varieties of different colors”, the work of Rainers Mozulis and Markus Skujevskis of the 12th grade of DVĖ, teacher Gita Heister. III degree diploma obtained at the regional conference (98 points).
  • The work “Organ-on-a-chip technology using induced pluripotent stem cell lines” by Linda Valteres, a 12th-grade student of Auces High School, scientific consultant for the development of the work – an employee of the Biomedical Center of the University of Latvia, a doctoral student of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Latvia, a graduate of Auces High School Karīna Narbute, pedagogue Indra Spela. III grade diploma (87 points) obtained at the regional conference.

The regional conference took place online, which is organized by the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technologies in Jelgava in Zemgale, while the 48th National Conference of the Student Union of Students is planned for May 22. According to its Regulations, the authors of papers who have scored more than 100 points at the regional conference are invited to the State Conference.

The goals of developing research works are to promote the formation of students’ scientific worldview, to develop students’ practical, organizational, research activities, as well as analytical and critical thinking, planning and communication skills. Mainly – to provide guidance for further education.

Thank you to the scientific consultants and educators who developed the works – consultants who provided support to young people, thus helping them to prepare for university studies!
